Cell Phones and Plans: Any Suggestions?

Joi and I are coming up on the end of our two year contract with Verizon. We don't have any problems with Verizon, but we'd like to optimize our spending and get more for less. We both need new phones. Joi is not particular, but since she is using texting more, I'd like her to upgrade to a phone with a qwerty keyboard. I like my LG enV phone but I've been having battery issues. So, I was eying the LG enV Touch or something like that. Anyway, before we go in and talk to the Verizon salespeople (and get abused), I'd like to know how to get better phones for cheap and a better plan. Anyone have any suggestions? I checked eHow, but didn't see a whole lot that was useful. Suggestions would be appreciated. Dante, I know you like challenges like this.

If you leave Verizon, I won't be able to talk to you as much, because you'd be out of my network and Ray and I share 700 minutes with no family and friends. Unless of course, we talk on nights and week-ends. I have an EnV Touch and I really like it, especially the keypad. Texting is so much easier now. Also, they have really improved the Navigator so it is totally worth having if you need directions a lot.
Sarah has T-mobile and loves it, but does have a lot of dropped calls when she's traveling.

Hey Mom, We won't be leaving Verizon. We have too many friends and family on Verizon that we talk to and we like the free "in" calling that Verizon offers. So, we're sticking with Verizon. We're just trying to figure out how to make our renewal more cost effective for us.

Hello, we have had everybody under the sun and we came back to Verizon. We have had them now for about 5 years and have better service and less dropped calls than any of our friends. Todd and I also have the Env Touch and love it. I would recommend getting the hard plastic snap on cases though to protect it when you drop it. I've dropped mine twice and broke the 1st case and just snaped off the 2nd case but the phone has been ok both times.

have you chosen a phone yet? all the freaks over here have the Droid. the they all say its the hot ticket.

i here the T mobile is getting a new android phone pretty soon (in a few weeks). the cool thing about it is... you can get a data plan only (no voice plan) for only 40 bucks a month. as for incoming and out going calls you can use a VIOP alternative like google voice or skype for free!
