- What was the black smoke monster? Was it bad brothers soul? The devil? Why did it make that sound like a roller coaster track and a Jurassic Park dinosaur? Why did it take pictures of their thoughts when it analyzed a person before it destroyed them?
- What was the light at the center of the island? Why did it go red and weird when the stone was moved? Why did it go back to light when the stone was put back? Who made the pool in the area where the light was? Why did the water stop flowing when the stone was removed and start again when the stone was put back?
- What did the Dharma initiative have to do with anything? Why did they waste so much time on the Dharma initiative if it was all about Jack's test to see if he was a good guy or a bad guy?
- What happened to the bad people on the island that didn't make it to the church and move on?
- Was the sideways reality real or not?
- What happened to Mr. Eko?
- Why did Jack's dad...who was a jerk and a drunk most of the series...become so nice in the last scene
- Who made the giant four toed Egyptian statue that Jacob lived in?
- How did Jacob's step-Mom get on the island and how long was she there before Jacob's real mom arrived?
- What did the game that Jacob and his brother played have to do with anything? There was a constant theme of black versus white on the show...what was the significance of that? Good vs evil?

Lost Series Finale
Lost ended last night. The series finale was 2.5 hours long. Joi and I stayed up until 11:30pm watching it (which is a big deal for both of us). I'm still processing the finale. I'm not sure how I feel about it. There were times during the show when I was giddy like a school-boy. There were other times I was sad or emotional. There were some awesome moments and there were LOTS of questions left unanswered. Some of the glaring questions that I wanted answered that are left hanging are these:

and that's why i shunned LOST 2 or 3 seasons ago!
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO: LOST
You needed to watch the recap LOST show that was on for 2 hours before the last episode. It really helped me to get all my facts straight.
All your questions are valid, but I think the producers are asking us to use our imagination to fill in the details.
I found it interesting that Ben Linus didn't want to go in to the church.
I was mostly happy that all the couples were reunited, even if it was fake heaven. lol
Here's what I believe and will try to answer your questions with what I think:
• The black smoke was the MiB's soul. When Jacob threw him into the light cave it separated his body and soul thus why he needed a body (John Locke) to leave the island. I think it only made those sounds so we can identify when it was around. I don't think the sounds were significant. I think it looked into people's souls to determine if they were good or evil.
• The light was the islands "switch" if you will. Like Jacob said, imagine the island as a cork keeping evil (MiB) contained. When Desmond pulled the plug it allowed the evil to escape, thus turning red and allowing the MiB to be injured. It made him fully human and able to leave the island. After he was killed, Jack put the cork back in, returning the island to it's "good" state. Whoever made the island probably made the pool. I think the water stopped flowing to signify that something major happened.
• I think Dharma was still there to discover the properties of the island. It was still a real island and Dharma was still real and trying to figure out this crazy place. Plus it made for a good story line. And if it was all about Jack being a good or bad guy, then none of it was really necessary.
• I think this is left for interpretation. If the church represented "heaven" to you, then the bad people could be in some "hell" somewhere? Maybe they are all stuck on the island still. Richard did say the island was hell......
• The sideways reality was their spiritual side's journey. Not until both their spiritual side and their physical sides conjoined (when they started having the flashes) did they actually die and go to the "heaven". It was real, just not physically real I guess.
• I heard that Adawale (or whatever his name was) was upset that they killed his character Mr. Eko and so he said he wouldn't be involved anymore, so they had to kinda kill his story. (Really Adawale? You want to walk away from a show like LOST because you are upset? Like your career is that great outside of LOST?)
• Not sure about Christian being a jerk then good. Maybe he had a change of heart? Remember that on the island, it was the MiB as Christian Shepherd.
• Not sure about the statue. Probably whoever created the island.
• Not sure how she got there. Maybe she was the original Jabob? Or maybe the original MiB? Maybe she was the original Richard and never aged. Not sure....
• There was a constant theme of black vs white and I believe you are right about it being good vs. evil. Seems to be the overall theme of the whole show.
I liked the ending as well and I knew it wasn't going to answer everything but I just took it for what it was and I thought they did a good job with it. It was a great show and I'll miss it.

I really enjoyed it, even if some things were left a little open ended.
