Carol of the Bells

My all time favorite Christmas song is Carol of the Bells. I remember while growing up Catholic, I would be forced to stay up to attend midnight mass when I was a child on Christmas Eve. My parents were both in the choir, along with both of my Grandma's. The service started at 11:30PM and by that time a child gets very sleepy. Plus, the dark church and the incense didn't help me hold on to wakefulness for very long. I remember dozing off in the pew near the choir loft on many Christmas eve's throughout my childhood, but there was always one song that they did almost every year and it was the one song I made sure I was awake for. The Carol of the Bells. I don't know what it is, but it struck a chord with me (no pun intended). It's a beautiful song. I could literally hear the bells chiming in the voices and it always blew me away. Now when I hear that song, I remember being the small child almost asleep in the pew listening to my parents and Grandmother's singing this beautiful song. Here is an Emmy Rossum version of that song, for your enjoyment.

ingissIts funny how a certain song will "strike a chord" with someone, for me it is What Child is This? that I have just always loved. But for us Methodists the song Silent Night is the highlight with all the candles lit. I have always loved that since I was a kid.
